Researchers from the University of Edinburgh visited Gothenburg this week to get know SeaTwirl and to explore opportunities for mutual collaboration.
The historical bonds between Scotland and the shipping and trading city Gothenburg are strong. This week’s visit was about the power production and transmission, how the kinetic energy from the rotation of the turbine is transformed to electricity on the grid.
Scotland is a pioneer in the buildout of floating wind. Of the 20 projects that has been awarded under Scotwind, 13 are floating windfarms. The market for floating wind is however global and is expected to become very large. The interest between SeaTwirl and the academy is therefore mutual and long-term.
“Renewable energy has taken big leaps to lower costs for a long time and behind each step is the solid and innovative work of engineers. We are of course proud of the interest that our innovative solution garners and are ourselves interested in the best ideas from the academic world. To have researchers from the University of Edinburgh to visit us and discuss collaborations is an expression of that”, says Jonas Boström, CTO of SeaTwirl.
