SeaTwirl has been invited by Business Sweden to join the Swedish business delegation at UN’s third Ocean Conference in Nice

We are very excited to announce that SeaTwirl has been invited by Business Sweden to join the Swedish business delegation at UN’s third Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France, this week on June 9–13.

Today Sweden hosted for first time a high-level side event as part of UNOC3, “Blue Solutions: Existing Innovations for Protecting and Sustainably Managing Our Ocean and Coasts”, organised by Business Sweden and the Swedish Embassy in France. The event spotlighted innovative Swedish solutions that contribute to the global green transition by cleaning, protecting and sustainably managing oceans and coasts—advancing Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14) of the 2030 Agenda. SeaTwirl attended as one of seven cutting-edge Swedish companies that was showcased during the event.

In the presence of H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Sweden’s Minister for Climate and Environment, Romina Pourmokhtari, and France’s Minister for Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the event brought together leading research institutes, pioneering companies, and international partners. Two expert panels explored international collaboration and present scalable, Swedish-led innovations and SeaTwirl’s CEO Johan Sandberg was there to represent SeaTwirl.

The awareness about wind power in deep waters is quickly increasing around the world and it is encouraging to see it on the agenda here at the UNOC. The complexity around conflicting interests in the ocean is immense and we need to find the balance between energy security, military, shipping, fisheries, climate, and environmental concerns. We are honoured to have been invited to join the Swedish delegation and to contribute in these discussions

says Johan Sandberg, CEO of SeaTwirl

At UNOC3, SeaTwirl is highlighted by Business Sweden as a Swedish business innovation that can foster sustainable growth, job creation and a more prosperous, climate-resilient future as well as supporting the Paris Agreement and to accelerate the implementation of SDG14.

Sweden is home to many innovative companies developing sustainable solutions to protect and care for our oceans and coasts. By highlighting their expertise at UNOC, we aim to spark new collaborations and help advance progress on global sustainability goal 14”, says Annika Stål, Sweden’s Trade Secretary in France

United Nations Ocean Conference takes place every three years and is described as one of the most important events of this decade for our ocean’s future. The co-hosts—France and Costa Rica—are driving forward complementary and ambitious initiatives that could shape the future of global ocean action. The Conference will aim to accelerate and scale up the implementation of ocean action, as well as build partnerships for the delivery of new and existing ocean commitments. It will also identify avenues and means for the achievement of SDG14. The Conference will build on the previous Ocean Conferences, hosted by Sweden and Fiji in 2017 in New York, and by Portugal and Kenya in 2022 in Lisbon.

About 60 heads of state and tens of thousands of scientists, researchers, economic actors, indigenous peoples, local communities, and other stakeholders from around the world are gathered to collaborate and act together to protect the Ocean. The overarching theme of the Conference is “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean”.

The ocean plays a critical role in regulating the climate, generating oxygen, and absorbing carbon dioxide, yet it faces rising temperatures, acidification and biodiversity collapse, with over 50% of marine species at risk of extinction by 2100. The Conference will address the urgent need to protect and restore the ocean, which is increasingly degraded due to climate change, unsustainable human activities and biodiversity loss.

The programme of the 2025 UN Ocean Conference will include opening and closing segments, 10 plenary sessions and 10 Ocean Action Panels. These panels will be collaborative and multi stakeholder in nature and will focus on recommendations to support the implementation of SDG 14. The Conference will adopt an action oriented and inter-governmentally agreed declaration, the “Nice Ocean Action Plan”.
